We moved away from Nottinghamshire in 2018 so the blog stalled ... more villages may be added over time but it will be a slow process!  



We began visiting and photographing the villages in June 2015.  It will take a while to visit them all but in the meantime here is a list (with links to the relevant posts) of the places we have been to so far:

Granby & Sutton cum Granby - A Real Ale pub and the Belvoir Witches
Hawksworth - Tympanum and grotesque gargoyles.
Hawton - Top church carvings.

Normanton on Soar - art fraud and a perfect wife.

Owthorpe - Col. Huthinson and The Fish Ponds.
Rempstone - cars, steam engines and the Sitwells.
Scarrington - That pile of horseshoes.

Shelton - The Warburtons and the Maltbys
Sibthorpe - The best dovecot in Britain. a murder and a less famous Archbishop of Canterbury.
Stanford on Soar - Philanthropic millionaires, railways and wounded military personnel.
Staunton in the Vale - An impressively long family history and interesting church carvings!
Syerston - Famous for its WW2 history but it was here before then.
Thoroton - Or is the best dovecot .....?
Thorpe - Home to Lucy Townsend, abolitionist, who taught women how to campaign.
Tythby  - Morganatic wife of King John and Nottinghamshire council house campaigner.
Upper Broughton - Possibly the Best Pork Pies in the World!Unfortunately now closed!! : (
Upton - The Rector who crowned Queen Elizabeth I and a Time Museum.
Whatton - A murder and horses.           UPDATED 14th September 2019
Widmerpool - Cotton Kings and an amazing effigy.
Willoughby on the Wolds - Lots of Willoughbys.
Wysall and Thorpe in the Glebe - the mysterious Stroking Boy and a murdered son.
